Wild coffee shrubs, scientifically known as Psychotria nervosa, are native to Florida and other subtropical regions. They are attractive, medium-sized, evergreen shrubs, typically reaching 2-10 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide. The shrubs are characterized by their shiny, dark green leaves with prominent veins, giving them a textured appearance. They produce small, white, tubular flowers in the spring and summer, which then develop into bright red, coffee bean-like fruits. While the fruits resemble coffee beans, they do not contain caffeine and are primarily consumed by birds and other wildlife.
