A heliconia is a tropical flowering plant known for its vibrant, showy bracts (modified leaves) that often resemble lobster claws or bird of paradise flowers. These plants, belonging to the genus Heliconia, are native to Central and South America and some islands in the western Pacific. They are popular in landscaping and as cut flowers due to their striking appearance.  These plants do best in partial to full shade with filtered light.
