Dutchman's pipevine, scientifically known as Aristolochia macrophylla, is a fast-growing, deciduous, woody vine native to eastern North America. It's characterized by its large, heart-shaped leaves and unique, pipe-shaped flowers. The vine can grow 20-35 feet tall, twining around supports like trees, trellises, or fences.
The unique flowers are pitchers and collect water and bugs. This plant will digest mosquitos and gnats within it's flowers. It also hosts the Pipevine Swallowtail (rare in our area) and the Polydamas Swallowtail butterflies.
